The Davion-variant has some more armor and no heatproblems at all but the loss of the crit-seeker and the rearfiring lasers would hamper it. A sort of shock trooper able to dash into the middle of the fighting and survive. Only the MG-ammo would be dangerous in such a scenario.

Not a bad machine, overall. Good firepower, good heat dissipation. No, actually, great heat dissipation from a Succession Wars era machine. But I prefer bracket fighters in general. No matter, this is still a great machine, with adequate armor, good speed for an assault, and good long and short range firepower. I question the necessity of the machine guns on an ASSAULT 'Mech though. Shouldn't smaller medium and light 'Mechs handle the ground pounders?
While the machine guns give the BattleMaster some additional capability at tackling infantry, the threat they pose to the safety of the machine via explosive ammo is much greater than the amount of capability they add.
Still, while the machine is not to my tastes per se, you cannot argue the effectiveness. In most situations, the Battlemaster lives up to its name, able to handle any circumstance at least passably well.

I'm not sure what should I think about this. It has the standard speed for a heavy 'Mech and very thick armor. But the fact that the 'Mech is made to alpha every round and run doesn't make it that appealing. The firepower is not that bad if you are standing next to your enemy (and this 'Mech can do that for a looong time), but there is no backup and if you can't close, then you have only the PPC. This one needs support. It's a powerful weapon, but I don't like it.

BLR-1D - the Davion variant goes the same way as the Warhammer-D - removing the secondary missile armament. Ok, that is only a single SRM6, what is the problem? And it gains another ton of armour, making it the 3rd best armoured design in 3025 (after the Atlas and the Cyclops-Q). It also has no heat problems!
Ok, that is rubbish. The loss of the SRMs suddenly show the true lack of oomph of a Battlemaster. Even a Jenner has a quartet of medium lasers. Ok, all those heat sinks mean it can always fire the PPC as well, and run. And go into a hot tub.
But seriously, this is 3025. And to me, this is way oversinked. And horribly undergunned. It can no longer hope to even pretend to be a JUGGERNAUT, it loses the fluff appeal to be a command design and a Grasshopper could out-BRAWL this any day of the week!
I don't like this Battlemaster at all.

Good armor, no heat problems, and can deal it out in close range. Love it love it love it. I have taken out bigger designs and swarms of vehicles with this mech. A real workhorse that can soak up the punishment then hit back. The other variants are good, but this is my favorite
