Overview:
The venerable BattleMaster was designed by Hollis Industries to allow high-ranking officers
leading battalions or regiments to be on the battlefield while commanding their forces
directly from the Mech's cockpit. Production started in 2633 to provide the Star League with
a BattleMech that was so iconic, strong and versatile, that it marked a new height of Star
    League military culture.

After the Star League vanished, all of the Great Houses managed to hold on to some of these
priced posessions. And when production started to decline and facilities were destroyed,
their value increased even further. The design has been kept alive by those leaders and
technicians that were able to maintain or alter the Mechs, even when badly damaged.

Capabilities:
With an arsenal that included some energy sniping and a fearsome energy and missile barrage
at close range, the pilot would always be able to handle even the tightest of situations. In
combination with the good armour and high speed for an assault Mech, only few would dare to
challenge a BattleMaster in combat. Those equipped with special cockpits and command
equipment marked a level of advantage only few Mechs were able to provide.

The BattleMaster was capable of firing all of it's weapons at their ideal ranges with little
compromise. Some variants had rare weapon mounts and semi-modular bearings. From rear-firing
lasers, portable energy guns for the left or right hand to side-swapable SRM launchers
mounted on the shoulders. A concept the Clans would introduce hundreds of years later in a
    much more refined state.

Variants:
Over the centuries, many variants of the BattleMaster were created. Some included the rare
Command Console while others changed the weapons loadout to better fit the needs of their
pilots. Unofficial minor field variants were in use for decades. One well-known example was
the change of torso-weapons to light autocannons like the Tech of Baron Cameron-Jones did
for the famous Rolling Thunder company. Much later this variant would gain official status
and an upgrade kit to create the BLR-6C.

Other variants were never made official though, like the rare BLR-1B. Call it a success of
military secrecy or just on the fact that so few numbers were ever created. This 1B-variant
seemed to stem from initial blueprints of the BattleMaster that included several optional
modifications. First the Donal PPC was replaced with a duo of Sunglow Type 2 Large Lasers in
the handheld gun. The back-mounted Martell Medium Lasers were removed and the Sperry
Browning Machine Guns and their ammo replaced with two Defiance B3S Small Lasers. Finally,
the StarGuard IV armour was reinforced by an additional ton, mainly used to better protect
the legs of the huge Mech.

Although shrouded in secrecy, visual depictions hint that this variant has been used by the
Draconis Combine and Wolf's Dragoons, while single Mechs were spotted in at least one force
of all other Great Houses. With the availability of modern upgrade kits that were spread
during the Clan Invasion, this variant seemingly vanished from existence.

Notable MechWarriors:
Great MechWarriors were fighting or leading their forces from the cockpit of a BattleMaster.
Many of them brought the assault Mech to battle under the emblem of the snarling wolf. Here
is is a small selection of those and also other heroes:

= with his tiger-striped BattleMaster he must've looked like a prehistoric monster

Colonel Daniel Allison | Star League Defense Force
= maybe the best MechWarrior that ever existed, he was a Star League Gunslinger
= as no one was able to match him, he had a record of 59 wins, 1 draw and no losses

    Zhong-shao Cole "Demon" Bishop | 2nd McCarron's Armored Cavalry

= his BattleMaster was later placed as a statue before being stolen by Kuritans

Marshal of the Armies Jackson Davion | several high-grade Davion units
= Jackson Davion held a most prestigous position as "Prince's Champion"
= he died when a Blakist Grim Reaper exploded his Mech reactor right next to him

Major Coshasa DuKirk | Wolf's Dragoons
= came to Wolf's Dragoons from the then defunct Fire Lizard Mercenaries

Major Arthur Dumont | Wolf's Dragoons
= was known to be a conservative and defensive tactician, but he was really good at it
= his dark blue BattleMaster was decorated with an almost invisible black cat emblem

Colonel Kathleen Dumont | Wolf's Dragoons
= her company was known to deliver terrible artillery strikes from multiple Long Toms
= she would then lead from the front, charging in with her dusty gray BattleMaster

Lieutenant-Colonel Angela "The Black Pearl" Franks | 23rd Republic Light Lancers
= known for having been a famous actress before becoming a MechWarrior
= her black BattleMaster was decapitated and torn apart by Combine Mechs on Sakhalin

Pirate Queen Nekane "Red Corsair" Hazen | Clan Jade Falcon
= a bloodnamed clan officer who would masquerade as a pirate named the "Red Corsair"
= she piloted a heavily modified BattleMaster with several Clan weapon upgrades

Coordinator Minoru Kurita | several high-grade Kurita units
= famous for starting the First Succession war, where he laid claim to many Davion worlds
= but all the gains were lost when Davion gained strength after the "Kentares Massacre"

Coordinator Takashi Kurita | several high-grade Kurita units
= the BattleMaster was Takashi's preferred Mech, until he changed to a Grand Dragon
= many decades later, great-great-granddaughter Yori Kurita would pilot the BattleMaster

Lieutenant Florence Milhaus | Wolf's Dragoons
= rising star of the Wolf's Dragoons that died against a superior number of Combine Mechs
= the torso of her rust-red Mech was decorated with an armored horse's head emblem

Colonel Andrei "Shos" Shostokovitch | Wolf's Dragoons

= once his BattleMaster got so badly damaged, he had to switch to another Mech

Major Diane Specter | Wolf's Dragoons
= towering over the battlefield, Diane Specter was a sight to behold in her BattleMaster
= she often managed to pull off morale-wrecking cover-to-cover hit & run tactics
